30th April 2015

Dear CUMaS,

We hope all of you had a great and productive Easter break! It was nice having so many of you attending our Easter Formal in Peterhouse last Tuesday and judging from the photos on Facebook and Instagram, it seems like everyone had a really good time! As Tripos looms ahead, many of you will undoubtedly be busy doing example papers, reading textbooks and writing essays; we would like to remind you to pace yourself and avoid burning out, remember that there’s always time to stop and smell the roses!

Yang rajin belajar,

CUMaS Committee 2015/2016

 1. Oxbridge games

IT IS THIS SATURDAY GUYS!! I’m sure all of you are excited, I know I am!

Here’s a message from our Sports Officer, James:

1) The bus will leave Cambridge at 6:30a.m. sharp, so please be at ‘Queens Backs’ by that time. We will leave Oxford at around 8p.m. The journey will take around 2 hours and 15 mins.

2) Participants and Supporters will have to pay 5 pounds. This will include lunch and transportation.

3) Unfortunately, due to space constraints, Oxford is unable to accommodate spectators for the badminton matches. Instead, during this time (3-6p.m.) they will be conducting a tour around the city for those who are interested/available. All are welcome to join! Free of charge. We will depart after lunch from the University Parks.

4) As there is no allocated time for dinner, you are free to grab a bite for dinner when you are not playing.

The schedule of the day is as below:

0900 – 1000 – Arrival and Welcome
1000 – 1100 – Frisbee (University Parks)
1100 – 1200 – Captain’s Ball (University Parks)

 2. Yayasan Harapan Kanak Kanak Malaysia

As some of you may recall, they paid us a visit during the Easter break, and they will be visiting us again on 7th and 10th June! If anyone wants to help out with touring these students and probably give a short talk to encourage them to apply to Cambridge do inform our President Amirul Merican.
Yayasan Harapan Kanak Kanak Malaysia is a body sponsored by Datin Seri Rosmah, the wife of the Prime Minister, where she is promoting higher education to these young generations. They have been not only  to the UK but also to other countries like Korea and the United States in hopes of broadening perspectives and encouraging students to further their education.

 3. Garden Party!

As you may all know, the Garden Party is one of CUMaS’s flagship events and it is organised by our very own Secretary, Ng Jie Yi! You definitely wouldn’t want to miss it this year; the theme of the event is Child’s Play: bringing us back to our childhood days, filled with old school games, nostalgic memories, great company and Malaysian food!
Venue: Churchill College
Time: 1200-1600
Date: 13th June
Theme: Child’s Play
