6. Volunteers for Research Project
Calling volunteers for a research project!
If you are a Malaysian undergraduate in Cambridge University, you have a unique story to tell. This is because out of the total Malaysian population, only 0.000004% is reading for a degree in one of the most prestigious universities in the world. I am researching Malaysian undergraduates’ motivation for reading. Specifically, I am interested to hear your story. Using interviews I aim to gather data about how you maintain motivations and negotiate de-motivations for reading. I will also invite you to keep written/audio diaries. In return, you will hopefully learn more about your motivation patterns. Ultimately, you will contribute to a unique project that sets out to capture the literacy stories of Malaysian undergraduates in Cambridge University.
If you’re interested to know further, do get in touch with me Su Li, at slc75@cam.ac.uk

7. The Great Debate
Hello,
I would like to introduce myself as Akilah Jeffers, the President of the
CUSU Black and Minority Ethnic Students’ Campaign. As a campaign, our
mission is to promote a socially inclusive environment for Ethnic Minority
Students at the University of Cambridge at both undergraduate and graduate
levels. We also provide support to Ethnic Minorities Officers, JCRs and
academics across the university. This year, I am particularly keen to work
towards making Cambridge more accessible for all students, regardless of
their background.
I would like to invite you to one of our biggest events this term, ‘The
Great Debate’. We will be joined by a panel of prominent speakers from
Ethnic Minority backgrounds, and we will be discussing issues relevant to
female and ethnic minority students, such as the representation of BME
people in the media, access to education, the gender attainment gap and
much more.

9. ABACUS Boat Party
Hey guys,
We would be really grateful if you take the time out to read the following email about a fantastic event that ABACUS are holding on the 25th November.
The entire committee are extremely excited to unveil the details of our most anticipated event of the year: the ABACUS Boat Party held in conjunction with Imperial, King’s and LSE on the 25th November on the River Thames in London. It is guaranteed to be an amazing night with around 500 people attending from Cambridge and London so it’s definitely a night to keep free in your diaries. There are even coaches, to take all of us down to London and back to Cambridge, so there’s really no excuse to miss it!
The theme this year is ‘Moulin Rouge’ so think glamorous, sexy and classy!
Keeping in line with our fantastic theme, entertainment is guaranteed to be fantastic – we have burlesque dancer Fifi Fatale, whose performances are sure to add the risqué element befitting the theme. Salsa dancers will offer an interactive element to the night, giving people an opportunity to meet people of the opposite sex in a fun, casual way. Up and coming homegrown talent from Cambridge, and May Ball favourites, Truly Medly Deeply will command the upper deck towards the end of the night, setting the mood for an hour or so of non stop clubbing!
The lower deck will provide a more intimate setting with acoustic music, providing a great atmosphere for chatting to your peers. Complete with a delicious chocolate fountain, downstairs offers a relaxed ambience and a great place to rest those tired feet! What’s more, there will be a photography studio downstairs as well as a calligraphy corner which gives people the chance to leave the night with an everlasting momento of the event.
