1. Appointment of our Postgraduate Representative

CUMaS is pleased to announce the official appointment of new postgraduate representative, Geeta Appannah from Darwin College. She’s been here for a year so drop her an email if you need to ask anything! Her email is ga282@cam.ac.uk

There will potentially be a postgrad formal next term so watch this space!

2. Malaysian Food Festival MFF

Here’s a reminder as to when MFF will take place. Please save this date! There promises to be lots of authentic, delicious Malaysian food 😀 (Attached is a poster to get the enthusiasm going :D)

Date: Saturday, 20th November 2010
Venue: St Paul’s Church
Ticket Price: To be confirmed

We are also in need of volunteers:
1) Can’t cook? No worries, there is no experience necessary! If you’re free that Saturday, please fill in the spreadsheet here. The upside of volunteering is that you’d get to eat for free, of course, and helping out is a great way to meet people and have fun.
2) Do you have a blender that we can borrow? We’d need it to blend chili for the MFF. If you own one, we would greatly appreciate it if you could lend it to us. Please contact Shan at welfare@cumas.org

3. Play Host to Imperial

Members of the Imperial College Malaysian Society will be visiting Cambridge on 27 Nov 2010 and we need volunteers for it! Basically just to bring them around, essentially college-visiting, punting (depending on weather) and formal at Pembroke. It is completely up to you to do what you think would be a good day out in Cambridge! Perhaps tea at a nice cafe (or get Chelsea Buns from Fitzbillies or crepes from Cambridge crepes or milkshakes from Shake Away!), a visit to the Arts and Crafts Market on St John’s Street or a trip to Market Square, a visit to the Botanic Gardens, or perhaps even a trip to the Fitzwilliam Museum or faculties if there are keen beans in your group! Depending on number of volunteers, each will get a number of Imperial students for you to show around. The whole day is very flexible, you can do what you deem fit. In the form here, you can state your availability i.e. day or evening. Day shifts would include lunch, punting and touring. Evening shifts would include touring (continued) and hosting them for a formal at Pembroke (places are limited and priority given to those who volunteer for the whole day). For the formal, please indicate by 20th November if you would like to come.

6a. ABACUS Annual Oxbridge Boat Party

Cambridge ABACUS (Association of British and Chinese University Students) and OUAPS (Oxford University Asia-Pacific Society) are proud to announce that the Annual Oxbridge Boat Party on the London Thames will be held on Saturday 27th November 2010 on the largest luxury entertainment, conference and party boat in London – the P.S. Dixie Queen.

The theme this year will be “Shanghai Grand”. Prepare to be transported back to the glitzy 1920s Shanghai; an era of romance, glamour and wealth, an age of jazz, smoking pipes and luxurious fur coats, in just one evening of bedazzlement, fun and indulgence.
