15th November 2012
Hello everyone! With weeks 5 and 6 out of the way, hopefully you’ve managed to avoid seeking psychiatric help.
First off, a reminder that we are having the Malaysian-Lots-of-Foodstravaganza, or Malaysian Food Feast, this Sunday. If you haven’t signed up yet, you better get to it unless you like envioulsy listening to tales about how good the food was. 😉 Also coming up this weekend, -surprise!-, is the Malaysian Night Auditions. If you’re a fresher, you are highly, highly, highly encouraged to try out!
CUMaS is also hosting a talk by Teach for Malaysia next week. If you’re interested in education, this is definitely an interesting event to attend. Finally, a plug for the Mexican Society who are holding a Mexican Folk Festival tomorrow and Saturday.

1. Teh Tarik with Teach for Malaysia
I find myself worried that nothing I do every day is contributing to the things that matter the most. A job that promises all the comfort in the world cannot quiet my conscience. I want to teach because I know I can.
– Alina Amir, Teach For Malaysia 2013 Fellow
Teach For Malaysia is looking for outstanding leaders to join a movement for quality education for all Malaysian children. Join us for a conversation on education in Malaysia and discover what you can do to fight education inequity.

2. 2012 Malaysian Night Auditions
Have you ever sat in your room and thought, "Well that’s all my work done, now I’ll just go back to being bored"?
Have you ever looked in a mirror and thought, "What a handsome guy/gal! I bet you could be a big Hollywood star!"?
Have you ever watched Step Up 1/2/3/4/5/6/… and thought, "I could do that!"
Yes? No? It doesn’t matter! What does matter is that Cambridge Malaysian Night 2012 is coming up and you should participate in it!
Just listen to these actual* quotes from former students who took part in MNight: (*not actual quotes)
"MNight was the most fun I have ever had in my first year!" – Student A
"I didn’t take part in MNight and now my life is in ruins." – Student B
"It all started at the Cambridge MNight – that’s where I was scouted and now I’m a multi-millionaire actress. Thanks CUMaS!" – Ms. Holly Wood-Star
But in all seriousness, Malaysian Night is one of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences you will have in your first year (**see below). Auditions are being held this weekend (and perhaps another session next week), so, no matter your level of experience (pretty much no one has experience) and ability, you should definitely come and give MNight a try! Details:
Date: Saturday, 17 November 2012 (yes, the day before MFF. Sorry for the short notice!)
Time: 15 minutes of your time, anywhere from 11am – 7pm. Choose your slot in the Doodle poll below.
What to prepare: Memorize any two poems from The Lor- just kidding. No preparation needed. Just come to auditions and relax 🙂
Please sign up here so I know what time you’re coming: http://doodle.com/gxc8kgz9dd667v2w
Hope to see you there!
**Traditionally most of the roles for MNight has gone to freshers. If you’re interested in joining and you’re not a fresher, please send me a message at publicity@cumas.org
