CUMaSKini 25/11/2014: MNight Auditions, Stem Cell Donation, CUMaS – CUMSA Pub Night

CUMaSKini Header

25th November 2014

Dear all,

Lectures end next week! And CUMaS is ending Michaelmas term with a blast through the CUMSA and CUMaS End-of-Term Pub Night! You can also sign up to donate your stem cells during a recruitment event the last Friday of term (this Friday!)

To Freshers: Remember to fill the document below to indicate your availability for the all important Malaysian Night 2015 Auditions. I quote Varun Nadkarni the Great who was one of our main casts last year:-

MNight is our biggest event of the year and it’s super fun! No prior talent required at all, everyone who took part last year had basically never done any drama before, so it’s a great opportunity to try something new. It also brings the people who take part much closer, because you’ll see each other so often you’ll become a family  Like Haris said, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact either of us and we’d be more than happy to answer them. Hoping to see lots of you there this Saturday “

If that didn’t convince you to come for try outs, your other seniors eventually will!

Yang berminum kopi,

CUMaS Committee 2014/2015

 2. Stem Cell Donation

How are you planning to spend the last Friday of term? Finishing an essay? Sleeping in preparation for a big night out in Life? Do you think you could squeeze in potentially saving the life of someone from your community? Cambridge Marrow will be holding a recruitment event to sign people up to the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register this Friday. Anthony Nolan’s Bone Marrow helps match people who require stem cell transplants with potential donors. More information can be found here: http://www.anthonynolan.org/8-ways…/donate-your-stem-cells .Our genetics mean that when it comes to someone needing a stem cell transplant, the best match is likely to be someone of the same ethnicity. There is currently a severe shortage of people from Black and Ethnic Minority groups on the register. This means that while Europeans have a 60% chance of finding the best possible match from a stranger, this falls to 20.5% for Black and Ethnic minorities.
If you come to our event, you will be given the opportunity to talk to a trained counsellor about the process of donation and find out if it’s something you’re interested in. If you are, we can sign you up there and then, all in the space of half an hour.

When: 13.45-17.15 Friday 28th November

Where: Chadwick Room, Selwyn College
