6th February 2014
So what’s the deal, banana peel?
Happy belated Chinese New Year!
“Didn’t we just have New Year’s?”
“Yes, but what about second New Year’s?”
And what better way to rein in the Year of the Horse than reading this glorious newsletter. Recommended by four out of five dentists.
To get the figurative, imaginary ball rolling, a quick reminder for those who have signed up and paid: the CNY Lunch+Karaoke is this Saturday. CUMaS will also be launching its Speaker Series later this month and our MNight Trailer will also be airing soon, so keep an eye out for that.
Also, for those of you who ordered CUMaS stash, these snazzy blue jackets are now available for collection, complete with that new jacket smell! Mmm, cotton-polyester blend…
And speaking of new things that smell (lovely, I’m sure), we’re now accepting Manifestos for a new shiny CUMaS Committee!
We are also surveying interest/questions for an MIT Skype Session for members interested in applying to the States for Graduate Masters/PhD programs. Let us know what you want to know!
Also, our friends from ABACUS are having a Welcome the Horse Funkyard @ Lola Lo. Gee, I don’t know who this horse is but he must be pretty special! Get your tickets below!
A little further away from the ‘Bridge, our good buddy ol’ pals from Oxford University Malaysian Club are hosting Malaysia In.Spires 2014, an exciting conference featuring current prominent Malaysian personalities. If you’re interested in attending, check out the proposal attached.
Spires not really your thing? Why not try some emerging markets? More interesting than submerged markets! LSE SU Emerging Markets Forum registrations are now open. Check below for more details.
Busy, busy start to the Year of the Horse, huh?
Saddle up, you’re in for ride!
Yang berkuda sekeliling,

4. Collecting CUMaS Stash
As much as your CUMaS President would like to own 40 identical jackets, regrettably, this will not be happening.
So if you’ve ordered one, you can either:
i) Pay a presidential visit to Fitzwilliam to pick up your stash OR
ii) Collect them at the CNY Lunch+Karaoke on the 8th February in Orchid
If you’re feeling reallly lazy, you could always ask a friend to pick it up for you. Just be sure to let Mr President know beforehand!
5. Committee Manifestos
This is it, guys. Your chance to finally get a funnier, more entertaining but probably less good-looking Publicity Officer (wink)
We are now accepting Manifestos for CUMaS Committee positions!

Make sure your manifestos are in the week before the AGM, details just below:
Date: 10th March 2014 (Monday)

6. Malaysia In.Spires 2014
A message from OUMC (I call them Oomphs) –
Dear Supreme Council Members & Student Leaders,
We are a coalition of Malaysian Societies, consisting of the Oxford University Malaysia Club (OUMC), Malaysian Accounting & Finance Society (MACFIS) and the Warwick Malaysian Students’ Association (WMSA).
We will be hosting a conference – Malaysia In.Spires 2014 – consisting of 4 panel discussions involving prominent Malaysian personalities on the topics of Malaysian: Competitiveness, Politics, Education and Identity & Culture.
It will be hosted in an Oxford College the weekend of the 1st of March and, given sufficient sponsorship, will be accompanied by a formal dinner in an Oxford dining hall. We aim for sponsorship to cover all costs, including transport costs for students.
We will be sending out a round of invitations closer to the date.
Nevertheless, at this stage, we invite you to join us as Affiliate Student Societies and enjoy benefits such as publicity in our communications with sponsors/speakers & access to our databases of sponsor/speaker contacts (as well as a slight possibility of limited funding). Attached is our Two-Page Brief summarizing these benefits.
Also attached is our full proposal for your perusal.
If you’d like to join us, please refer to Next Steps on page 10 of the proposal. I will be available to discuss this over Skype or telephone. Do drop me an e-mail if you’d like to chat about Malaysia In.Spires 2014 (a “hey bro, chat sometime?” will do).
I invite you to join us in promoting frank discussion of Malaysia’s future as well as youth participation in nation-building via Malaysia In.Spires 2014.
Thank you,
Yours sincerely,
Shaun Kua Keng Hian
OUMC Representative
