1. Back-to-Uni/ Freshers’ Squash
Welcome back to uni! We will be having our Freshers’ Squash this Saturday (7th October) at Churchill College from 2.00pm – 5.00pm.
There will be free food provided for members and it’ll be a great chance to mingle and get to know all the seniors, so do pop by anytime between 2 – 5pm to say hi! I’m sure the seniors would have a lot of (useful) advice to give and would love to meet all the new faces 🙂

You don’t have to sign up for this event so feel free to bring along your friends who might be interested to join CUMaS!
**Cross your fingers for an okay weather! **

See you soon!

2. Donations for Terrence’s Family
On a more serious note, CUMaS is setting up a platform to collect donations for Terrence’s family. For those who are unfamiliar to this, do read the following newspaper articles about Terrence’s inspiring life story:

We do try our best to make the procedure as transparent as we could, with a spreadsheet (link below) that is publicly accessible for all to follow-up on the progress of the donation.

By the end of December, the CUMaS committee will deliver the cheque to Terrence’s family, and we will keep everyone updated with the progress.

For those who wish to donate, we would appreciate it if you could take note of the following steps:

Step 1:
Payment Method : –
Cheques made payable to Cambridge University Malaysia Society (Deliver to Fang Yen Sin, Fitzwilliam)

or

Bank transfer
HSBC plc
Sort code: 401608
Account number: 12549263
***In reference area please state : Donation, Name

Step 2:
Send an email to secretary@cumas.org after you’ve made your donation : stating your Name, College, Email, Amount donated. This is for us to update our spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApNJ8Cwk34Y0dFliWEh5V1M0cTg0SEpmcURjNDhnNkE&hl=en_US#gid=0 . As mentioned earlier, the spreadsheet can be viewed publicly to ensure transparency and for us to check the progress.

**If you wish to remain anonymous, you may do so but we will still require you to send the email (as of Step 2) for us to keep a record. However, your name will not appear on the public spreadsheet.

Do contact us if you have any queries at all. Note: Deadline for collection: 20th November 2011, 11.59pm

We really appreciate all of your contributions and would like to thank all of you on behalf of Terrence’s family.

About Ethos:

Ethos & Company is a boutique, Malaysian-led management consulting firm, specialising in corporate strategy, corporate transformation and public policy. Ethos has worked on some of the most challenging business issues for Government Linked Companies, Multinationals and Government, including public policy review, strategy and business plan development, operationalisation of high impact business entities and large-scale business transformation. Founded by 3 former McKinsey & Company senior consultants in 2002, Ethos has grown to a firm with over 25 consultants and collaborative alliances with regional and global consulting firms.

Our recent engagements:

As Malaysia’s leading boutique strategy firm, we have worked on some of the most important – and challenging issues across the private and public sectors. Our recent mandates include:

•Developed the growth strategy for a large agriculture conglomerate, resulting in business restructuring and close to RM10 billion worth of investments

•Internal reorganisation and business model transformation for a major Government entity to prepare it for listing at a market capitalisation of RM20 billion

•Reviewed overall strategy and developed financial model for a RM30 billion integrated real estate development in Klang Valley for a large conglomerate, and subsequently assisted in detailed due diligence, negotiation and selection of international partners for specific catalytic projects to kick-start  development

•Long term involvement in a major GLC covering strategy, business planning and implementation, resulting in market capitalisation increase of 300%

•Restructured NEP policy instruments to move from allocative approach to market-based approach, resulting in the establishment of a national private equity company with a RM5 billion fund size

•Helped to operationalise six new high impact entities, each of whom became the catalyst for key government programmes including government transformation, regional development and biotech industry development

Career Opportunities at Ethos:

Postgraduate degree / MBA holders typically join the firm as Senior Associates, where they would be deployed to work on client-facing projects under the guidance of an engagement manager and more senior members of the firm. There is a structured internal training programme to help our consultants meet their training needs at each level of their career. Promotion and career development are based on actual demonstrated performance, benchmarked against transparent criteria and are not seniority or time driven. We pride ourselves on our “apprenticeship” model, where consultants are given ample opportunities to interact with the partners and senior members of the firm to gain insights and thought leadership.

Please refer to the attachment for more information about the firm.

Thank you and warmest regards,
